Dreaming of a wedding with an Italian vibe, but Italy just doesn’t work right now? Maybe because of the visa, maybe because of the budget, maybe because you simply want something not everyone has seen yet. Then let’s talk about Turkey.
Turkey is one of the most exciting destinations for a destination wedding – but only if you know where to look. Istanbul, Cappadocia and Bodrum are worlds apart. Each has its own vibe, its own wedding venues and its own ways of creating a wedding weekend that goes far beyond a classic celebration.
We’ve created weddings and editorials in all three regions, and today we’re sharing our hidden gem picks: one wedding venue per destination that is truly special for a luxury wedding – including ideas for what your wedding weekend there could look like. Let’s dive in!
Destination wedding in Turkey: Why more and more couples are getting married here
Real talk: many couples come to us because they actually wanted to get married in Italy. And then comes the visa question. For couples from Russia in particular, a Schengen visa is often almost impossible to get today – and even harder for their families and guests. Many of them, however, can enter Turkey without a visa. That’s exactly where Turkey becomes the perfect alternative: the same aesthetic, the same production quality as in Italy – just on the Bosphorus, in the valleys of Cappadocia or on the Aegean.
On top of that, Istanbul is one of the best-connected airports in the world. For American couples and guests there are direct flights from many US cities, and for guests from Europe, the Middle East or Asia, Istanbul is a hub anyway.
- Italian aesthetics without a Schengen visa
- Excellent connections for international guests
- Wedding venues that don’t exist like this in Europe
- Experiences that make a wedding weekend unforgettable
Istanbul, Cappadocia or Bodrum? The destinations compared
Before we get to the wedding venues, the most important question: which destination actually suits you? Here’s the quick overview.
Our tip: don’t decide based on Instagram, but on how you want your weekend to feel. Want to show your guests culture and glamour? Istanbul. Want them to experience something they’ll never forget? Cappadocia. Should it be a summer party by the sea that lasts until sunrise? Bodrum.
Getting there: Istanbul is unbeatable
For a destination wedding with international guests, Istanbul is the clear winner. The city has two international airports – Istanbul Airport on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian side – and can be reached directly from almost anywhere in the world. Your guests don’t need a connecting flight, whether they’re travelling from Germany, the US, Dubai, India or Russia.
Bodrum is a little harder: in high season there are direct flights from some cities, otherwise you connect via Istanbul. Cappadocia takes the most effort. Its two airports, Nevşehir and Kayseri, have practically no direct international flights – you’ll almost always connect in Istanbul, and sometimes there are connections to Kayseri via Antalya or Izmir. Either way, a connection is necessary, and that’s something you need to factor into your guest planning.
Istanbul without the city chaos
Istanbul’s big advantage is how easy it is to reach – the downside for many guests is the hustle and bustle. Especially for first-time visitors, the traffic, noise and sheer size of the city can quickly become overwhelming. That’s exactly why we love Büyükada: you get all of Istanbul’s advantages when it comes to travel, but your guests stay and celebrate on an island where it’s quiet, there are no cars and the skyline is just a backdrop.
Bodrum: A real holiday feeling
Bodrum is the destination for everyone who wants to combine their wedding with a holiday. Dreamy beaches, turquoise water, bays where you jump into the sea straight from the boat. Your guests can swim in the morning, lounge at a beach club at noon and dance at your wedding in the evening. That’s not really possible in Istanbul – you don’t just jump into the sea there.
Cappadocia: No sea, but nature like nowhere else
Cappadocia has neither beach nor skyline. Instead, it has a landscape that is unique in the whole world – and experiences your guests won’t find anywhere else. Couples who marry here consciously choose something extraordinary and accept a slightly more complex journey for it.
Which destination suits you?
In the end, it comes down to your style. What all three destinations have in common: high-end, luxurious wedding venues where you can get a lot out of the design and the experience. The only question is whether you want glamour and skyline, nature and adventure, or sea and holiday feeling.
Destination wedding in Turkey for international guests
Our couples and their guests come from all over the world – and every group has different needs. That’s exactly what makes a destination wedding in Turkey so exciting, because this is where East meets West.
- Russian wedding in Istanbul or Bodrum: for many Russian couples, Turkey is the perfect alternative to Europe – no Schengen visa, short flight times and an aesthetic like in Italy.
- Indian wedding in Turkey: multi-day celebrations with Mehndi, Sangeet and lots of guests are a perfect fit for Istanbul and Bodrum – with wedding venues that can host hundreds of guests.
- Guests from Dubai and the Middle East: a short flight, familiar hospitality and at the same time a completely different setting from home.
- American couples and guests: direct flights to Istanbul from many US cities make Turkey one of the easiest destinations to reach outside Europe.
- Couples from Germany, Austria and Switzerland: a three-to-four-hour flight and you’re in a completely different world.

Wedding Venue Istanbul: Our hidden gem pick – Princes’ Palace on Büyükada

If you want to get married in Istanbul, you’re probably thinking of the palaces on the Bosphorus: Çırağan, Four Seasons, Esma Sultan. All great wedding venues – we’ve written a dedicated article about each of them. But today we’re showing you a venue that hardly anyone has on their radar yet: Princes’ Palace on Büyükada. Many people also search for it as “Princess Palace” – it’s the same dream venue.
Büyükada: The island without cars
Büyükada is the largest of the Princes’ Islands, a short boat ride from Istanbul – and it feels like a completely different world. No cars, no honking, no traffic chaos. Instead: old wooden villas, pine forests, bicycles and small electric vehicles. You have the Istanbul skyline in view, but you’re miles away from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Many houses on Büyükada still have exactly this old Turkish charm today. Wooden façades, weathered shutters, gardens full of bougainvillea – for centuries, the island was a retreat for Ottomans, artists and intellectuals.

And for a wedding, that’s both a dream and a challenge. Without cars, logistics have to be planned extremely well: guest transfers by electric vehicle, delivering the entire setting by boat, timings coordinated with ferry schedules. This is nothing you can improvise.
Princes’ Palace Wedding: Belle Époque with skyline views
Princes’ Palace is new – but it feels as if it has always been there. The resort is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and has 70 rooms, 56 of them suites – most with sea views. At its heart is an Ottoman-style mansion, the interiors bear the signature of renowned designer Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu, and the entire estate picks up the Belle Époque aesthetic of the island.

What makes Princes’ Palace the perfect wedding venue:
- The gardens: more than 650 trees, a French garden and green, symmetrical grounds – a European feel like in Italy, right in Istanbul.
- The Grand Library Terrace: room for up to 650 guests for a reception and 500 for dinner, with views across the Sea of Marmara to the Istanbul skyline.
- The Akdağ Grand Mansion: Belle Époque façades and a garden for up to 250 guests that makes an outdoor wedding look like a film. No wonder the venue is already known from Turkish TV series.
- Private yacht dock: your guests arrive straight across the water – the most beautiful start you can imagine.
- A spa with an Ottoman hammam, pools and a private lagoon beach for the days around the wedding.
And the best part for your wedding weekend: the venue offers experiences that are perfect for a destination wedding – trips on wooden yachts across the Sea of Marmara with a picnic and skyline views, private wine tastings with a sommelier, cooking classes with Ottoman recipes and bike tours around the island. Plus extras like a bridal shower with a traditional hammam ritual, an after party until the early hours or a signature fragrance created just for you as a couple. And if you want the entire resort exclusively, it can be booked out completely.
Compared to the big hotels on the Bosphorus like the Four Seasons or Çırağan, Princes’ Palace is above all one thing: an experience. You’re not getting married in a hotel in the city, but on an island – with a sense of exclusivity you rarely get in Istanbul. And because the venue is still so new, you get a Princes’ Palace wedding that hasn’t been seen a thousand times on Instagram.
Accommodation for your guests: Princes’ Palace & Splendid Palace
Some of your guests can stay right at Princes’ Palace. For larger weddings, it’s also worth looking at the Splendid Palace Hotel – a historic hotel on Büyükada with its iconic red domes, which has been part of the island’s image for more than a hundred years. That way all guests stay on the island, distances are short, and nobody has to catch the last ferry at night.
Getting there: Which airport is best for a wedding on Büyükada?
Istanbul has two international airports. For a wedding on Büyükada, Sabiha Gökçen airport on the Asian side is ideal: from there you quickly reach the piers on the Asian side and are on the island by boat in no time. Guests landing at Istanbul Airport on the European side are picked up with organised transfers – it takes a little longer, but is just as easy to plan.

What your wedding weekend on Büyükada could look like
Day 1: Arrival by boat & get-together with skyline views
Your guests don’t arrive one by one, but all together – on a large boat that welcomes them with drinks and canapés. No stress with ferry timetables, no “where do we need to go?”. Instead: a champagne reception on the water, the Istanbul skyline behind you and the first introductions before you’ve even arrived. In the evening, the party continues on the large terrace of Princes’ Palace – with drinks, canapés, live music and a sunset over the city.
Day 2: Ceremony in the garden & dinner on the terrace with a focus on design
The ceremony takes place in the garden of the Akdağ Grand Mansion – green, symmetrical, surrounded by Belle Époque façades and with the sea in the background. Then dinner on the Grand Library Terrace, with design at the centre: a concept that picks up the island’s Belle Époque and reinterprets it. This is exactly where a wedding goes from “beautiful” to unforgettable.
Day 3: Brunch at GALLADA overlooking Istanbul
To finish, everyone takes the boat back to Istanbul together – straight to Karaköy. There, a shared brunch awaits at GALLADA, the rooftop restaurant of The Peninsula Istanbul at Galataport. Chef Fatih Tutak serves Turkish-Asian cuisine, and from the terrace you look out over the Old City. Afterwards, everyone leaves from there at their leisure – depending on when their flight is.

Wedding Venue Cappadocia: Our hidden gem picks – Fortuna of Cappadocia & Avantgarde Refined

Cappadocia isn’t just a destination. Cappadocia is an experience. Fairy chimneys, valleys in pink and gold, cave hotels carved into the rock – and every morning, dozens of hot-air balloons rise into the sky. Couples who marry here don’t want an off-the-shelf wedding, but a wedding weekend their guests will still be talking about years later.
Fortuna of Cappadocia: The new luxury wedding venue in Uçhisar
Fortuna of Cappadocia is the region’s newest highlight – a luxury hotel in Marriott’s Autograph Collection, right on the hillside of Uçhisar. With 125 rooms and suites plus 28 private villas, it’s one of the few wedding venues in Cappadocia where you can really accommodate a larger wedding party at a luxury level.
- Setting: Uçhisar, with panoramic views over fairy chimneys and valleys.
- Capacity: 125 rooms and suites plus 28 villas – ideal for a wedding weekend with lots of guests.
- Dining: the Fortuna Terrace with rooftop views and the Grand Cabaret with dinner and live performances on selected evenings.
- Wellness: a spa with an indoor pool and a traditional hammam – perfect for the day before the wedding.
Avantgarde Refined Cappadocia: Cave hotel meets design
Avantgarde Refined is a venue we know and love from our own experience – it’s where we created our editorial “Avantgarde Refined Cappadocia”. Classic cave architecture, a courtyard that becomes a stage at night, and terraces overlooking the rocky landscape. Small, refined and with exactly the kind of character a wedding in Cappadocia needs.

Ceremony in the valley: Getting married in the middle of the landscape
The best thing about Cappadocia? You don’t have to get married in a ballroom. Your ceremony can take place in the middle of one of the valleys – with views of the mountains, the fairy chimneys and a sky that glows in every colour at golden hour. Velvet stools in the grass, flowers that seem to grow out of the landscape, and a silence you only find here.

Experiences in Cappadocia: More than balloons
Sure, the balloons are iconic. And a shoot at sunrise, with dozens of balloons rising into the sky behind you, is a moment no other destination in the world can offer. But Cappadocia can do so much more – and it’s exactly these experiences that make your wedding weekend special. Build them into the get-together day or the day after the wedding:
- Balloon shoot at sunrise – for the two of you as a couple, or for all your guests together up in the air.
- Pottery class: Cappadocia, and Avanos in particular, has been known for its pottery for centuries. Your guests make their own wedding favour.
- Wine tasting: wine has been grown in Cappadocia since antiquity. A private tasting at a winery is the perfect get-together.
- Yoga under the balloons: on a terrace in the morning as the balloons rise – there’s no more relaxed way to start a wedding day.
- Sound healing in a cave: singing bowls, handpan and the unique acoustics of the rock.
- Sunset dinner in the valley: a long table in the middle of the landscape, candlelight, and the starry sky above you.

Wedding Venue Bodrum: Our hidden gem pick – Scorpios & the Aegean

Bodrum is the party destination of the three. Turquoise water, beach clubs, yachts in every bay – and a lifestyle somewhere between Mykonos and Saint-Tropez. If you’re looking for a summer wedding with a wedding weekend by the sea, this is your place.
Scorpios Bodrum: Bohemian luxury with Ritual Space
For us, Scorpios Bodrum is one of the most exciting wedding venues in Turkey – with Ritual Space, the venue’s spa area where sound healing and yoga usually take place. We created a complete wedding design there: brown drapes falling from the architecture, a handpan at the ceremony, darbuka and djembe to Afro House at the afterparty. You can read the full story in our article on the wedding at Scorpios Bodrum.
Important: Scorpios Bodrum is currently closed, and whether it will reopen next season is still open. But Bodrum has wedding venues with a similarly strong vibe – you’ll find an overview in our wedding venues in Bodrum.
What your wedding weekend in Bodrum could look like
Day 1: Get-together on the Sunset Terrace – meze, drinks, music and a sunset over the bay.
Day 2: The wedding on the Beach Deck or in Ritual Space – ceremony at golden hour, dinner by the water, party until late into the night.
Day 3: Yacht party – pick-up right at the Beach Deck and a day in the bays around Bodrum.

Luxury wedding in Turkey: What to look out for in service & quality
Turkey can do luxury weddings at the very highest level – but not automatically everywhere. That’s exactly why choosing the right wedding venue and the right wedding planner is so crucial here.
Quality standards aren’t the same everywhere
There can be worlds between an international luxury hotel and a local event venue – in service, timing and technology. Don’t just ask about the price, but about who is responsible on site on the wedding day and which suppliers the venue works with.
Curfews and hidden costs
Many wedding venues have curfews or charge hefty surcharges for the afterparty. Clarify this at the start, not three weeks before the wedding.
Exclusivity
Not every venue can be booked exclusively. Hotels and beach clubs in particular often keep running in parallel – decide early whether that’s okay for you.
Logistics on islands, in valleys and bays
Whether it’s Büyükada without cars, Cappadocia with a ceremony in the middle of the valley or Bodrum with night-time deliveries: the most beautiful wedding venues in Turkey are often the most logistically demanding. This is exactly where an experienced wedding planner stands apart from one who just organises decor.
FAQ: Destination wedding in Turkey
Which destination is best for a destination wedding in Turkey?
It depends on your vibe and your guests. Istanbul is the easiest to reach, with two international airports and no connecting flight needed. Istanbul is perfect for elegant weddings with culture and a skyline, Cappadocia for couples looking for experience and nature, and Bodrum for summer weddings with a wedding weekend by the sea.
What is Princes’ Palace on Büyükada?
Princes’ Palace, often searched for as “Princess Palace”, is a luxury resort on Büyükada, the largest of the Princes’ Islands off Istanbul. It is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, with 70 rooms (56 of them suites), its own yacht dock, gardens with more than 650 trees and a terrace for up to 650 guests overlooking the Istanbul skyline – one of the most exciting wedding venues in Istanbul.
How do you get to a wedding on Büyükada?
Büyükada can only be reached by boat, and there are no cars on the island itself, only electric vehicles. For wedding guests, Sabiha Gökçen airport on the Asian side is ideal, but transfers from Istanbul Airport are easy to arrange too.
How do you get to Cappadocia for a wedding?
Cappadocia has two airports, Nevşehir and Kayseri. Neither has practically any direct international flights, so you’ll almost always connect in Istanbul, sometimes via Antalya or Izmir.
Can couples without a Schengen visa get married in Turkey?
Yes – for many couples, that’s exactly the reason for a wedding in Turkey. Citizens of many countries, for example Russia, can enter visa-free and still get a wedding with an Italian aesthetic.
Which experiences can you build into a wedding weekend in Cappadocia?
Besides a balloon shoot at sunrise: a pottery class in Avanos, a wine tasting, yoga under the balloons, sound healing in a cave or a sunset dinner in the middle of the valley.
Which wedding planner plans luxury weddings in Turkey?
Kaipo Weddings is a wedding planning agency specialising in luxury destination weddings in Turkey, Italy and Greece. Founder Büsra Deniz-Sicak has created weddings and editorials in Istanbul, Cappadocia and Bodrum and knows the local wedding venues and suppliers.
Conclusion – Istanbul, Cappadocia or Bodrum: Which wedding venue is right for you?
Turkey isn’t a compromise destination. It’s one of the most versatile destinations for a destination wedding there is – with wedding venues that don’t exist anywhere else.
