The Peninsula Istanbul sits in Karaköy, exactly where the Bosphorus meets the Golden Horn, spread across historic port buildings right on the water. A The Peninsula Istanbul wedding means a ballroom with a terrace on the Bosphorus, in the middle of the city, and minimum guest counts that decide everything else.
Here you can read which two formats the hotel offers for weddings, how we develop a design there that does not look like a standard set-up, and what it costs. All figures are starting prices for a minimalist set-up and exclude the planner fee. The hotel prices come from a current offer for summer 2026 and from our conversations with the hotel, and may change. The photos in this post are from our own weddings at other places, not from The Peninsula.
Where is The Peninsula Istanbul and what is there?
The hotel opened in February 2023 and is part of Galataport, Karaköy’s new waterfront quarter. It consists of four buildings: the former 1937 passenger terminal in Bauhaus style with its clock tower, which now houses reception, the 1912 Merkez Han, once the headquarters of Turkish maritime lines, the 1910 Çinili Han with its tiled facade, and a new building with the ballroom. Together they hold 177 rooms and suites.
For your guests, what matters is what there is between the events: Gallada, the rooftop restaurant by chef Fatih Tutak, the Lobby with its terrace on the water, the Topside bar beneath the clock tower, a sculpture garden designed by Enzo Enea and a spa beneath the main building with a pool, hammams and, according to the offer, eight treatment rooms, two of them for couples. The hotel also has its own boat dock.
Who is a The Peninsula Istanbul wedding right for?
- For large guest lists: for a dinner, the hotel works with at least approx. 250 guests on weekdays and 350 at weekends. That is more than many weddings have. If you are fewer, you still pay the minimum.
- For a ceremony with a cocktail: if you celebrate on a smaller scale, the current offer allows a ceremony with a cocktail reception from 80 guests, with a minimum spend instead of a minimum guest count.
- For couples who want the city and the water: the old city on the other side, the ferries in front, Galata behind. If you are looking for a wedding in nature, Bodrum or Cappadocia suit you better.
Two formats: dinner or ceremony with cocktail
Dinner in the ballroom: the ballroom and terrace together seat up to 820 guests. For a wedding dinner, the hotel quotes us approx. €330 per person, with at least approx. 250 guests on weekdays and 350 at weekends. That is why a wedding day here rarely comes in below approx. €180,000.
Ceremony with cocktail: in the current offer, the reception runs from 7 to 10 pm and guests are escorted to the Herb Garden. 80 guests are guaranteed, and the minimum spend is approx. €45,000 on weekdays and €60,000 at weekends, each plus 20% VAT and 10% service. Included are four cold, four warm and four sweet canapés and an unlimited drinks package, plus the wedding suite with a Bosphorus view, a room for the groom on the wedding day, a massage for the couple at the spa and a dinner for your first anniversary. A seated dinner is not included in this format.
Design: a concept for this place, not a standard set-up
A ballroom tempts you to fill it with white flower walls and crystal. That can be beautiful, but it says nothing about this place. The Peninsula has a history as a port, a terminal and the seat of maritime lines, and that is exactly what we develop the design from. A few ideas:
- Ceremony at sunset by the water: with the view across the Bosphorus to the old city, the ceremony barely needs decor. We agree the exact spot by the water with the hotel. We keep it pared back and let the ferries and the light be the backdrop.
- A ballroom with a port’s history: brass, dark blue and clean lines like the 1937 terminal, long tables instead of round ones and stationery that recalls old ship tickets.
- Cocktail in the Herb Garden: herbs as the common thread, from the signature drinks to the place cards, instead of flowers in every corner.
- A farewell across the water: the hotel has its own boat dock. Whether you move on by boat after dinner is something we clarify beforehand with the hotel and the boat operator.
- A welcome evening above the rooftops: whether a welcome evening at Gallada is possible is something we ask the hotel on request. It is not included in the offer.
You can see what a consistent concept feels like at a table in the photos below, taken at our weddings in Bodrum and Cappadocia, not at The Peninsula.

A wedding weekend in Istanbul: what it can look like

How much does a wedding at The Peninsula Istanbul cost?
We calculate the two formats separately. For the dinner we assume the weekday minimum of 250 guests. Design, photo and video, music and extras are calculated as in the cost of a destination wedding in Turkey, with design scaling from 121 guests as it does there. The tables show starting prices: minimalist design, a DJ with basic lighting and sound, mid-class photo and video teams. Design, entertainment and photo & video are exactly where the range opens up, and below you can set it yourselves. Rooms are not part of the offer; your guests book them themselves.
Wedding day with dinner, 250 guests on a weekday
Welcome evening the night before
Bosphorus yacht the day after
Ceremony with cocktail, 80 guests, as quoted
Together
As a starting price, a wedding day with dinner and 250 guests therefore comes to approx. €194,000, and a wedding weekend with a welcome evening and a Bosphorus yacht to approx. €289,000. At a weekend with 350 guests and opulent design, a band, a live act and top photo and video teams, you are closer to approx. €537,000. The ceremony with cocktail for 80 guests starts at approx. €123,000 on a weekday and approx. €142,000 at a weekend. Not included are the planner fee, rooms, flights, venue fees outside the hotel and outfits. For a comparison with other venues in Istanbul, see How much does a wedding in Istanbul cost?.

Honestly: pros and cons
What speaks for it
- Location: in the middle of Istanbul, right on the Bosphorus, with the old city opposite.
- Capacity: ballroom and terrace for up to 820 guests at tables, which few waterfront hotels in Istanbul can manage.
- Architecture: three historic buildings that already tell a lot on their own.
What you need to plan for
- Minimum guest counts: 250 on weekdays and 350 at weekends for dinner. If you are fewer, you still pay the minimum.
- Net prices: 20% VAT and 10% service come on top of the menu.
- The cocktail format has no dinner: if you celebrate with 80 guests or more, you get canapés and drinks, but no seated meal.
- A city hotel: The Peninsula is not a buyout; other hotel guests and life in Galataport are around.

The Peninsula, Çırağan, Four Seasons or Six Senses?
- Çırağan Palace Kempinski in Beşiktaş: a former Ottoman palace on the Bosphorus. For weddings, at least 10 rooms for 2 nights are part of the deal there.
- Four Seasons Bosphorus in Beşiktaş: a palace hotel on the water with a garden and terrace.
- Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus in Kuruçeşme: modern, right on the water, further north along the Bosphorus. According to the current offer (as of 2026), the weekend minimum spend for the Bosphorus Garden is €70,000 plus VAT.
- Six Senses Kocataş Mansions in Sarıyer: two historic mansions far up the Bosphorus, quieter and smaller.
In How much does a wedding in Istanbul cost? we place the venue types by price: palace hotels such as Çırağan, Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental start at approx. €140,000 for the wedding day, The Peninsula at approx. €180,000. You will find every option in our 23 top wedding venues in Istanbul.
