An Indian wedding in Turkey works really well: Istanbul, Bodrum and Cappadocia offer venues with room for several hundred guests, kitchens that can cook Indian food properly, and flights from London, New York and Mumbai. As a guide, we budget from approx. €1,000 per person for a single-day wedding and from approx. €1,700 per person for a wedding weekend. Your guests’ accommodation always comes on top, separately.

At Kaipo Weddings we receive a lot of enquiries for Indian weddings, mostly from the UK, the USA and India. The questions are almost always the same: what does it cost? Which venue fits? Will the Indian food be genuinely good? And can a dhol be loud? Here are the answers.

In shortAn Indian wedding in Turkey costs from approx. €1,000 per person for a single-day wedding and from approx. €1,700 per person for a wedding weekend. From around 200 guests, each additional guest only adds approx. €400–500, because fixed costs like photo and video are already covered: 250 guests over three days start at around €362,500. We always show guest accommodation separately, from approx. €1,000 per room per night at the wedding venue, approx. €250–450 plus shuttle nearby. Our top 3 venues: Mandarin Oriental Bodrum, Fortuna of Cappadocia and Princes’ Palace in Istanbul. Planner fee, flights and outfits are not included.

Budget calculator: what will your Indian wedding in Turkey cost?

Choose your destination, guest count and number of days, your style, the functions, the design level, alcohol and how late you want to party. If you are covering your guests’ accommodation, switch it on. It appears as a separate line, apart from the wedding budget.

How much does an Indian wedding in Turkey cost?

The short answer: it depends mainly on guests and days. For a single-day wedding we budget from approx. €1,000 per person, for a wedding weekend of around three days from approx. €1,700 per person, for the whole weekend, not per day. That covers venue, catering, tech, photo, video and music, plus minimalistic design, local alcohol and the after-party. Every budget is individual.

from €1,000per person, single day
from €1,700per person, whole wedding weekend
€400–500per extra guest above approx. 200
from €1,000per room per night at the venue, separate

From 200 guests: why each extra guest costs less

Photo and video team, stage, lighting, sound, mandap and much of the design cost barely more for 300 guests than for 200. From around 200 guests these fixed costs are covered, and each additional guest only brings catering, chairs, extra tables, linens and decor: approx. €400–500 per person for a wedding weekend, approx. €300 for a single day. The total keeps growing, just more slowly.

Accommodation: always separate from the wedding budget

At Indian weddings the family often covers the guests’ hotel rooms. That is why we always show accommodation separately, for example: approx. €400,000 wedding budget plus guest accommodation of approx. €120,000. At the wedding venue, expect at least approx. €1,000 per room per night; at a cheaper hotel nearby approx. €250–450 plus a shuttle service.

Alcohol, after-party and extra functions

Local alcohol and the after-party are already included in the guide figure. Imported alcohol is very expensive in Turkey because of high taxes, so we add approx. €60 per person per event day. Celebrating without alcohol does not change the guide figure. Over three days, four functions are included; each additional one needs its own set-up and costs approx. €10,000.

Example: 250 guests, three days in Bodrum

An example from the calculator, not a real wedding: 250 guests, three days in Bodrum, mixed style with Haldi, Sangeet, Baraat & Pheras and Reception, detailed design, local alcohol, party until 2am. Guests stay four nights at a cheaper hotel nearby. If everyone stayed at the wedding venue, the accommodation line would be around €500,000, and the wedding budget would not change.

Traditional, modern or both? What Indian weddings look like today

Most couples who contact us do not want a 100% traditional wedding. They want certain rituals, often not all of them. Some celebrate only Haldi and Sangeet traditionally and want everything else very modern, editorial and full of experiences. Others keep the Baraat and Pheras entirely classic and turn the Reception into a party that looks more Ibiza than ballroom.

01Classic Indian traditionalEvery function from Haldi to Reception, with the colours, rituals and running order your families know.
02Mixed: modern & traditionalHaldi, Sangeet, Baraat and Pheras stay traditional; design, music and the Reception go editorial.
03Very modern, a few traditional elementsOne or two rituals at the heart of it, the rest a wedding weekend full of experiences.

Indian food: the most important part of the planning

For Indian couples and their guests, food is not one line item among many, it is the line item. A wedding can look beautiful, but if the dal is not right, the family will talk about it for years. That is why food comes first for us, even before design.

  • Contacts with venues: whether a kitchen can cook Indian food is not in any brochure. It works through good relationships with the kitchen teams. At Mandarin Oriental Bodrum and Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus in Istanbul, for example, Indian cuisine is no problem.
  • Tasting before you sign: you taste the menu before signing, including the dishes your family absolutely wants.
  • Vegetarian, Jain and Indian chefs: we plan vegetarian and Jain menus as separate menus with separate preparation. Where it makes sense, Indian chefs join the venue’s team.

Design: Indian, but not “just another Indian wedding”

Indian weddings have their own charm and look: colour, marigolds, fabrics, light and a mandap that holds it all together. We love exactly that. Still, your design should not look like “just another Indian wedding”. We keep what makes these weddings special and extend it with new ideas, modern touches and elements your guests have never seen before.

Classic Indian settings and very editorial reinterpretations are both our craft. How we think shows, for example, in the art exhibition at the wedding of Melissa & Andrés in Cappadocia: five columns with objects from the couple’s story, crowned by sculptures of real flowers. An idea like that works at a Sangeet night, too.

We don’t want to replace the look of an Indian wedding, we want to take it further. Your guests should see something they have never seen before.Kaipo Weddings

The best venues for an Indian wedding in Turkey

A venue for an Indian wedding needs several settings, a kitchen that cooks Indian food, enough rooms and flexibility on music, fire and the baraat. These fit best.

Our top 3 for Indian weddings

1Mandarin Oriental, BodrumParadise Bay in Göltürkbükü, a hillside resort with its own beachesIndian cuisine is no problem, many settings for several functionsSea & wedding weekend
2Fortuna of CappadociaIn Uçhisar, 125 rooms and suites plus 28 villasOne of the few hotels in the region where many guests can stay togetherLandscape & balloons
3Princes’ Palace, IstanbulOn Büyükada, the car-free island off Istanbul, arrival by boatExclusive buyout possible, terrace for 500 guests at dinnerIsland & skyline

Istanbul: The Peninsula, Princes’ Palace, Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus

The Peninsula Istanbul sits in Karaköy right on the Bosphorus, where it meets the Golden Horn, spread across historic buildings such as a former 1937 passenger terminal, with its own ballroom. Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus sits in Kuruçeşme right on the water, with a kitchen that does Indian food well. Princes’ Palace on Büyükada is the island option, a boat ride from the mainland. More options in our guide to wedding venues in Istanbul.

Bodrum: Mandarin Oriental, Maxx Royal, Maçakızı, The Bodrum EDITION

Besides Mandarin Oriental, Maxx Royal Bodrum is a strong fit, a resort on the peninsula’s north coast in Göltürkbükü, built into a hillside above its own bay with a sandy beach. Maçakızı in Türkbükü is a Bodrum classic on the bay, with a beach-club vibe. The Bodrum EDITION sits right on the beach near Yalıkavak. For an overview, see our wedding venues in Bodrum.

Cappadocia: Avantgarde Refined and Fortuna of Cappadocia

Most cave hotels in Cappadocia are small. For an Indian wedding you therefore need a large hotel like Fortuna of Cappadocia in Uçhisar and a venue that can host large weddings, such as Avantgarde Refined in Ürgüp, with cave architecture, a courtyard and its own hall for dinner. Istanbul, Bodrum or Cappadocia: where should you hold your Indian wedding?

  • Istanbul, if travel should be easy: two international airports, direct flights from London, many US cities, Delhi and Mumbai. The major suppliers for sound, lighting and design are based in the city.
  • Bodrum, if it should feel special and double as a holiday: sea, beaches and resorts. Usually somewhat more expensive, because sound, lighting, design and florals come from Istanbul.
  • Cappadocia, if the landscape takes centre stage: valleys, fairy chimneys and balloons. Here, too, much travels in from Istanbul, plus shuttles and a domestic flight.

You don’t have to decide at the start. We often scout venues in several cities with couples, and they decide only after the site visits. What a wedding costs in each city: How much does a wedding in Istanbul cost?, How much does a wedding in Bodrum cost? and How much does a wedding in Cappadocia cost?.

Dhol, baraat, mandap and noise: what is possible in Turkey?

The good news first: at the venues named here, and at several more, noise is not a problem as long as the wedding moves indoors from midnight. A few things we still clarify with the venue early on.

  • Dhol: easy to integrate, at the Baraat, at the Sangeet or as a surprise at the Reception.
  • Baraat: horse, car or procession, we coordinate the route and permits with the venue.
  • Mandap and fire: we clarify the fire for the Pheras with the venue, including permits. By the sea, we design the mandap for wind.

Planning an Indian wedding in Turkey from London, New York or Mumbai

Most enquiries come from couples in the UK, the USA and India, often with families spread across several continents. That works in Turkey’s favour: Istanbul sits almost exactly in between.

From the UK

London to Istanbul is a direct flight of approx. 4 hours, and in summer there are also seasonal direct flights to Bodrum. Guests with a British passport can currently enter visa-free for tourist stays. With the small time difference, calls with us fit easily into a normal working day.

From the USA

Turkish Airlines flies direct to Istanbul from many US hubs, such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami or Washington, followed by a short domestic flight. Guests with a US passport can currently enter visa-free for short tourist stays. We schedule calls in your morning.

From India

There are direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul, including with Turkish Airlines and IndiGo, taking approx. 6 to 7 hours. Guests with an Indian passport need a visa. Those with a valid visa or residence permit for the USA, the UK, Ireland or a Schengen country can usually apply for an e-Visa online; everyone else applies through the Turkish embassy or consulate. Check the current rules early and for each guest individually.

Planning remotely

Almost all of the planning runs over video calls and shared documents. Once, you travel to Turkey for a site-visit trip: seeing venues, tasting the menu, discussing design on site.

FAQ: Indian wedding in Turkey

How much does an Indian wedding in Turkey cost?

From approx. €1,000 per person for a single-day wedding and from approx. €1,700 per person for a wedding weekend. From around 200 guests, each additional guest only adds approx. €400–500, because fixed costs like photo and video are already covered. That puts 250 guests over three days at a starting point of around €362,500; with detailed design in Bodrum the calculator lands at around €422,000. Accommodation is calculated separately; planner fee, flights, outfits and jewellery are not included. Every budget is individual.

Can we have authentic Indian food and Indian chefs in Turkey?

Yes, if the venue is right. It works through good relationships with the kitchen teams. At Mandarin Oriental Bodrum and Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, for example, Indian cuisine is no problem. We plan vegetarian and Jain menus separately, and where it makes sense, Indian chefs join the team. Before you sign, there is a tasting.

Can we have a dhol and a baraat in Turkey?

Yes. A dhol is easy to integrate, and at the venues we recommend noise is not a problem as long as the party moves indoors from midnight. We coordinate the baraat route and permits with the venue, just like the mandap fire.

What is the best venue for an Indian wedding in Turkey?

Our top 3 are Mandarin Oriental Bodrum, Fortuna of Cappadocia and Princes’ Palace on Büyükada in Istanbul. Other very good fits are The Peninsula and Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus in Istanbul, Maxx Royal, Maçakızı and The Bodrum EDITION in Bodrum, and Avantgarde Refined in Cappadocia.

Indian wedding in Istanbul or Bodrum: which is better?

If travel should be easy: Istanbul. If it should feel special and double as a holiday: Bodrum. Bodrum is usually somewhat more expensive because sound, lighting, design and florals come from Istanbul. Many couples decide only after site visits in both cities.

Do Indian guests need a visa for Turkey?

Yes. Guests with an Indian passport and a valid visa or residence permit for the USA, the UK, Ireland or a Schengen country can usually apply for an e-Visa online. Everyone else applies through the Turkish embassy or consulate. The rules change, so check the current requirements before you send the invitations.

Can we plan an Indian wedding in Turkey from the UK or the USA?

Yes. Almost everything runs over video calls and shared documents, scheduled in the morning for couples in the USA. You travel once for a site-visit trip to see venues and taste the menu. Our team speaks 6 languages, so your parents can talk to us directly, too.

How far in advance should we plan an Indian wedding in Turkey?

Allow 12 to 18 months. Large room blocks over several nights, popular venues in high season and the tasting all take time, and your guests need notice for flights and, where needed, visas.
